No Niche Nelly

As a brand new “blogger” (I really hesitate to refer to myself as such just yet), I have been reading a lot of “how to blog” posts written by some of the most successful bloggers on the web. There is an overwhelming amount of information to trudge through and it can get very confusing, very quickly.   The one thing my newbie brain has managed to deduce is that apparently a successful blog must have a niche – a specific focus for a specific audience.  This, of course, makes perfect sense.  The only problem is, as I have realized in somewhat of a panic, my blog has no niche! I have no actual focus or specific audience in mind.  At first this notion didn’t really worry me, but then the thought festered, took root in my head and flourished into a full-fledged paranoia. I am almost convinced this blog must be doomed for failure because I can’t come up with a specific focus. I really feel like No Niche Nelly.

I have pondered, contemplated, and tried to squeeze this blog into some sort of topical pigeon hole, but without much success.   Thus far, the only thing I can do is tell you what this blog is not. It is not a true self-help blog (I can barely get myself together each day, I’m not going to be much help to anyone else); it is not business related; it does not offer health or fitness advice; you’ll find no home-improvement or decorating tips here; there’s not a recipe to be found; no shopping or make up tips; and no parenting advice.

The only way I can think to describe this blog at the moment is a Mulligan stew of random observations and experiences from life. I have thus far written about issues and concerns that are on my mind when I sit down to write. This means you probably won’t find much consistency here I’m afraid. It is at the mercy of my rather unfocused mind and unreliable motivation.

Perhaps this is pie in the sky thinking, but it would be great if this blog could be a place where opinions could be discussed respectfully – even if I don’t share your beliefs and you don’t share mine; even if I am conservative and you are liberal.  I don’t know about you, but I get tired of hearing people on polar opposites of both the political and religious scales arguing and flinging mud at each other instead of engaging in rational dialogues.

If you have taken the time to read any of my posts or to follow me, I am very grateful and I hope you will continue to visit this randomness of ramblings. Maybe in this sea of randomness, we can find ways to help each other through difficult times by sharing experiences and coping strategies; maybe, even if we disagree on the issues, we can still find a common ground to be a source of hope for each other in a world that feels as though it truly has gone mad (excuse the cliché).

As I learn and progress in my writing, if I post something that happens to strike a chord, makes someone chuckle, starts a conversation, or helps someone else, then I will be happy. I would love to make blogging my career; however, if that means I absolutely have to fit into some sort of defined niche then perhaps that just isn’t meant to be. Maybe no niche is a good niche in this case?  Only time will tell I suppose.

I'm all ears...or eyes I guess??
