I know, it’s so cliché, but I am so sick and tired of stupid drivers putting not only my life at risk but also the lives of my family every time we get in the car.
We live in a west Texas town that has in recent years experienced a population surge due to an oil boom. That has somehow translated into an increased number of loons on the road. Last year alone we had over 40 traffic related fatalities. That may not sound like many but , statistically and historically, it is for this city.
The stupid decisions made by drivers never ceases to amaze and terrify me on a daily basis. Speeding, running red lights (not just “lighter shade of pink” lights, but blatant REALLY red lights), careless passing, cutting off, and riding butt are just a few of the pleasant experiences we can look forward to when making our way around town. My favorite is the person who rides your bumper, passes you then cuts you off just to make it to the red light a few seconds before you do. Or, the person who, despite the fact that there are absolutely no other cars behind you, feels the need to pull out in front of you and immediately slow down. Or the individual so engrossed in their texting or cell phone conversation that they either sit at the green light until it changes to red (although they notice just in time to squeak through) or who inches over into your lane totally oblivious to the fact they nearly took off your front end.
I am not a person who typically swears, but even I have succumbed to dropping the big boy swear words when driving around this place and witnessing the asinine behavior of my fellow motorists. I think I’m also developing a case of road rage; I’ll probably mouth off to the wrong person one day and end up getting shot but sometimes you just have to point out the stupidity of your fellow man, regardless of the risk.
